Can you perform mold clean up in Baltimore Maryland yourself ? 

Actually you can in other areas of Maryland that I will list below .  Removing mold is easy , but performing mold clean up correctly is another story . Let me explain .  

When my company SI Restoration started out in the 90's , the concern about mold clean up was not a concern . When we brought up the subject , most homeowners including property managers answer was simple , " when we see mold we will paint over using Kilz product . Killz is  a paint that blocks stains on walls . 

Mold became an issue in the 1980's with certain nationwide court cases showing that mold is a health issue and that people can sue and win . Then mold concerns became a major issue sparking an alarm throughout the world and people started to really look at the effects of mold in their homes and offices. 

So the question became is who can clean the mold and what is the accepted method . 

Well to this date , there are no official accepted methods  but there a number guidelines that one can follow such as:

• New York Department of Health Mold Guidelines
• IICRC S520 Guidelines 

And states that have actual licenses that require certain steps and procedures to perform mold clean up. 

So the answer to the question of can you perform mold clean up yourself is yes and no. 

If you follow the mentioned guidelines above , you could do it yourself , but like anything else there are skills that need to be learned to be successful . My advice is to really think about what you are doing before getting in mold clean up .
