Ok so lets answer the question " How do I clean mold on walls "

Just use a rag and cleaning chemical right ?

The easy answer is just get a rag or cloth and some cleaner and wipe off the mold . But have you will notice that mold comes right back. But why ? Becuase the mold that you see is just the tip of the iceberg. There is more mold and mold roots like a plant that we will discuss in a little while.

Cover it with Kilz right ?

Kilz is a blocking paint that is used to make sure stains and mold can't be seen.

To block the visual opportunity of seeing the previous mold , Killz has on their label of their mold to block or cover paint and to stop the ability to grow more mold.

So whether you use Kilz or any tyoe of of paint that seals and blocks , you still have an issue that you can't avoid. Mold has roots that live inside the drywall or cinder block walls. So with mold roots , you have another opportunity for future mold colonies to form some where on the wall .

Remove Mold Roots

Mold is not just a surface problem; it penetrates deep into porous materials, making it crucial to address the root cause of mold growth. When mold spores settle on a conducive surface, they begin to form roots, known as hyphae, that infiltrate building materials like drywall, wood, and fabric. These roots allow the mold to absorb nutrients and moisture, facilitating further growth. Simply cleaning the surface mold may provide a temporary solution, but without removing these roots, the mold can re-emerge, leading to persistent mold problems and potential structural damage.

Mold has roots like a plant grow inside your drywall or hydroscopic material . So even if you wipe off the mold off the surface of the wall and use Kilz , you still leave roots living inside your walls . Mold roots continue to grow and then find a new place to " pop up " . Yes you don't see the mold now , but days  or months you will see the mold grow outside of the kilz painted area . The only way to be 100 % sure that you have removed the mold and its roots is to cut out the drywall. Now if the mold growth is on wood studs or concrete block you need to sand down the surface then use a kilz or similar product . These surfaces are dense and challenging for mold roots to grow through .

Ok so let's say I don't get of the mold roots ?

Yes you could try to just clean the mold off the wall and hide it with a paint like KILZ. But then you still have the problem of mold spores flying through the air ( microscopically ) while you are cleaning off the wall.

Creating airborne mold spores while cleaning mold on walls .

Mold spores in the air due to agitation of organic material can pose significant health risks and exacerbate mold problems within a property. When mold is disturbed, whether through cleaning, cutting, or sanding, it releases spores into the air. These microscopic spores are not only difficult to detect but can also spread quickly to other areas of the home or office, settling on surfaces that were previously unaffected. This can lead to new mold colonies forming in unexpected places, further the health issues and complicating the remediation process.

This process involves carefully cutting out the contaminated drywall or other porous materials, followed by a thorough inspection to ensure no remnants of mold remain. Once the mold-affected areas are removed, it's essential to replace them with new materials that are treated to resist future mold growth. This proactive approach not only safeguards the structural integrity of your property but also enhances indoor air quality, reducing health risks associated with mold exposure. Consulting with certified professionals ensures that the removal process is conducted safely and efficiently, utilizing advanced equipment and techniques to manage mold spores and prevent cross-contamination. By taking these comprehensive steps, you can achieve a mold-free environment and protect your investment in the long term.
